Kintsugi request

The repair will be a traditional kintsugi using "natural urushi" and "pure gold".

Many commercially available glues are not suitable for tableware, but if you use "natural urushi" and "pure gold" to repair kintsugi, you can use it safely for your daily tableware.

In addition to gold, we can also repair with silver and platinum, so please contact us if you wish.
*Silver will change its color over time to an ironed silver-like color, but platinum, like gold, does not change color over time.

Process

1. Contact us

Please contact us using the inquiry form below. We will reply to you with the availability of repair and the address to send the vessel.

2. Payment

If we are able to accommodate your request, we will send you an email requesting payment of the fee. Fees must be paid in advance.

3. Sending ceramics

Please pack broken ceramics by parts and send them to the designated address. (Please note that you will be responsible for shipping costs.)

4. Repair and return the items

We will ship the repaired product to you within 2 to 3 days after the repair is completed.

Delivery time

Currently, it takes about 6 months to repair.
The time required for repair will vary depending on the state of damage. We will inform you of the exact turnaround time when we provide you with an estimate after your inquiry.

Usage Guildlines

Do not use in a microwave. The gold may spark.
Do not use in a dishwasher. It may cause damage to the repaired areas.
Do not leave the item filled with water for long periods (over 30 minutes). This may cause the repaired joints to lift or peel.
Do not pour boiling water into the item. This may cause the repaired joints to lift or peel.
The gold on the surface is a very thin layer. Please hand-wash gently using a soft sponge.

FAQs

Do you accept glass products for repair?

We currently do not offer repair services for glass products.

Can I use ceramics repaired with kintsugi for meals? Can they be washed in the dishwasher?

Urushi lacquer is safe for use in food as once fully hardened, and is one of the most durable natural materials available.

However, please do not use it in a dishwasher, as it will cause the gold to peel off or damage the joints.

Can I use kintsugi ceramics in a microwave oven?

NEVER use it in a microwave oven, please.

As pure gold is used in kintsugi, there is a possibility of sparks flying and it is very dangerous.

I am allergic to urushi. Is there a possibility that I could have an allergic reaction to a kintsugi ceramics?

If the urushi is completely dry, it is very unlikely that you will have an allergic reaction.

However, Chimahaga is not responsible for any side effects caused by urushi.

If you have a serious urushi allergy, please consider the use of our products with caution.

I would like to request repairs, but I don't want the pottery to be posted on social media or the website.

If you mention that when requesting repair, we will not post photos of the pottery on SNS nor HP.

How do I ship my requested item for repair?

After confirming the details of your request form, we will provide you with the shipping address of the requested ceramics in addition to the information in our estimate, so please send the items to that address.

Please note that you will be responsible for the return shipping costs of the items.

We would appreciate it if you could wrap each piece in cushioning material to prevent damage during shipping.

Is it possible to make a request from overseas?

Of course it is possible.

However, please note that the customer will be responsible for the round-trip shipping costs of the requested items, and the cost tend to be greater.

In addition, if you do not carefully wrap the them in cushioning material, they may be in a worse state of damage during transportation than they were initially. In such a case, if repair is possible, an additional charge will be added to the quoted price, and if repair is not possible, the repair request may be cancelled.
