Be sure to wear gloves while working.

When treating urushi, be aware of allergic reactions to urushiol, which is contained in urushi. Urushi can cause skin irritation when it is wet, but once completely hardened, urushi is perfectly food-safe and is one of the most durable natural materials.

It is important to always wear rubber gloves when treating lacquer. The use of rubber gloves and arm covers prevents urushi from touching the skin. However, because lacquer vaporizes in miniscule amounts, people who easily get rashes from poison ivy or mango may get severely irritated even when wearing rubber gloves.
In the unlikely event that you touch the lacquer or become irritated by it, please consult a physician and seek immediate medical attention.

Chimahaga is not responsible for any health problems caused by treating lacquer.
Please be very careful when treating urushi.

question

I bought this kit, but in the lessons, they are using wood powder, which didn’t come with the kit. What item from the standard kit can replace the wood powder? Could it be the tonoko, or something else?

Superb quality

This kit, combined with the detailed instruction videos and a diligent approach, makes for a wonderful result even if you are a complete beginner to kintsugi. The only thing I wish this kit had was a small cutter like the one Chimahaga uses in the video to scrape excess urushi from the pots, but other than that the kit has everything I needed and was beautifully packaged to boot.

Good kit

I wish the ぎんつぎ (gintsugi) had been available at the time of purchase. Also it’s a shame some supplies are sold out. It would be nice to be able to get some of the accessories. I can’t wait for my 2nd kit to arrive so I can do the patching on my きんつぎ (kintsugi) project!
ありがとうごさいます!!!
