About Kamakura Class

Q: How do I pay for tuition?

Payment is made monthly by credit card using Stripe . Detailed instructions will be provided in an email after registration.

Kamakura Class

The Kamakura class is held in a room located approximately a 15-minute walk from Kamakura Station.
This class provides an opportunity to learn traditional kintsugi using authentic urushi lacquer.

Schedule

K1 Class: Every other Friday, 10:00-12:00 (twice a month)
K2 Class: Every other Friday, 13:30-15:30 (twice a month)

(each class has a maximum of 4 students)

Lesson Fee

¥14,000 (for two times a month)

- Fees are charged monthly.

- No enrollment fee is required.

Notes

- The in-person classes are intended for students who are able to attend for at least two months and have Japanese language skills above daily conversation level. We do not currently offer classes for tourists.

- The fee is to be paid by credit card. We will inform you of the fee by e-mail after your application.

- Please contact us in advance and we will be happy to substitute it for an available date in another class, If there is a day during the course that you are unable to attend.

How do I pay for tuition?

I am planning to come to Japan as a tourist. Can I participate in the kintsugi class?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to participate unless you could attend for 2 to 3 months.

Also, the instructor could not speak English, so those who cannot speak Japanese at a daily conversational level could not join our classes.

Can I use a kintsugi kit that I bought elsewhere?

If there is no problem, you can use the kintsugi kit. In that case, you do not need to purchase the kintsugi kit that we provide. (If you need additional materials, you will be charged for some materials.)

What if I want to stop attending in the middle of a class?

If you contact us at least one week before the next class date, we will refund the unused portion of the class fee and release the slot to another student.

(A cancellation fee will be charged if the cancellation is made within one week of the next class date.)

Do I need to bring back the ceramics I am working on each time?

You have to keep the ceramics you are working on in the classroom.

Please note that you will not be able to take home the ceramics you are working on until it is completed.

Can I work as a kintsugi artist once I have acquired the skills in the class?

The purpose of our class is to enjoy kintsugi as a hobby, so if you want to repair vessels for work, you will need a wider range of skills and knowledge.

Can I start the course from the second half of the month?

Yes, it is possible.

In that case, the first payment will be half of the monthly fee (7,000 yen) and the kintsugi kit (12,000 yen).

Is the lacquer used in the class natural urushi?

Yes, we use natural urushi in our classes and do not use any glue sold on the market. We use pure gold powder, not brass powder or other substitutes.

I want to know when to pay the money.

After submitting the application form, you will receive an email with a link to pay the first month's monthly fee.

After that, the monthly fee for the following month will be charged to the credit card you used. (The following month's fee will be automatically charged around the 15th of each month.)

If you are going to miss a class, please let us know in advance and we will refund the amount to your credit card.

Can I withdraw from the class after only one pottery repaired?

Yes, it is possible.

In fact, there are people who have taken the class to repair their own ceramics rather than to continue to take the class.

However, it takes at least 2 to 3 months to finish one pottery, as it takes 4 to 6 times to complete a project.

Is it okay if I don't have my own ceramics?

If you do not have your own ceramics, you can use the ceramics in the classroom.

Of course, you can use your own ceramics for kintsugi, but depending on the number of ceramics and their damages, it may be difficult to work on several ceramics at the same time. We will discuss with you how to proceed.

Can beginners join?

Of course! Most of our current students are beginners.

There is a lot of detailed work to be done, so we cannot say that it is easy for everyone. Even so, we hope that you will enjoy the process of carefully working with the vessels and repairing them.

How long does it take to repair one pottery?

It depends on the damage to the pottery, but it would take about 4 to 6 lessons (2 to 3 months).
